New York state of mind

The New Jersey Nets were on the clock, but it was the New York Knicks who were making news. Moments before their Atlantic Division rivals selected Sean Williams, it was announced that the Knicks pulled the trigger on a trade that brings Zach Randolph, Dan Dickau, and Fred Jones to Madison Square Garden from Portland in exchange for Steve Francis and Channing Frye.

The Knicks, who always seem to be a billion dollars over the salary cap, get rid of Francis' $15.1 million contract, which is second on the team only to Stephon Marbury's $17.2 million deal. Take a look at the projected starting lineup for New York next season:

Point Guard - Stephon Marbury
Shooting Guard - Quentin Richardson
Small Forward - Jared Jeffries
Power Forward - Zach Randolph
Center - Eddy Curry

Throw in the likes of David Lee, Nate Robinson, and company coming off of the bench, and the Knicks are a much more complete team than a season ago. While I'll wait on making a judgment on this team (keep in mind, everyone said they'd jump into the fourth of fifth spot in the east when they acquired Marbury a few seasons ago, and instead they barely made the playoffs), I think this is certainly a step in the right direction.
