Atlantic-10 and GW News and Notes

It has been awhile since we last updated the goings on of both GW and A-10 basketball. Here are a couple of newsworthy items being reported today:

1. Thomas Robinson has narrowed his list of schools down to Five: Unfortunately GW, the first team that recruited him, is not on the list. The five schools are Memphis, USC, Kansas, Texas and Miami. It is not a surprise to see one of the breakout recruits of the summer aim for some of the most elite programs in the country including both the national champions and the national runner-ups, but I am sure most Colonial fans would have liked to have seen Robinson, a D.C. native, show a bit of loyalty to coach Hobbs who first recruited him during this season and was the first coach to offer him a scholarship.

2. Fordham picks up another recruit to impressive 2009 draft class: Brian Freeman, a Potomac, VA native committed tonight to Fordham University. The 6-8 220 LB forward was also being recruited by St. Joe's, Villanova, George Mason and Akron. Fordham's class now features Freeman along with Lance Brown of Paterson Catholic and Chris Gaston of St. Anthony's in what should be a very talented roster for Derek Whittenburg and the Rose Hill Rams in 2009.

3. Megan Kahn named Asst. A-10 commissioner: Kahn, along with Bernadette Mcglade have been asked early and often about how they plan to market the Atlantic-10 and allow fans of the conference to view more games on TV. Frankly, I have not been blown away with the responses and McGlade and now Kahn will need to make the overall viewership of the A-10 a main priority or else neither one will last very long as commissioner.
